This is the place where we get to bore you silly with a diary of stuff that's happened through the months and years of the band's existence. Newest news on top.
July 2011
20/04 We've teamed up with Will Chandler, widely regarded as the number one Sir Cliff Richard performing lookalike with his fun musical tribute to the Peter Pan of pop. The Cliff... As If show has been running since May 2007 and entertaining thousands of people in the UK and Europe. Will has been in show business since the age of 16 originally training to be a professional dancer before touring with several song and dance bands in cabaret shows. One thing that Will has always had is a striking resemblance to Sir Cliff Richard and it was this that led him to begin his own act as a Cliff tribute. However, he has had to face many struggles in finding the right formula to succeed and this occurred in 2006 when Will appeared on a national showcase where he fine tuned the act to include comedy. This paid off and it was just after that time that the concept of Cliff... As If was born.
Since that time Will has not only made Cliff... As If one of the most popular Cliff Richard tribute acts around, but also he regularly appears in many lookalike events and shows. Even Sir Cliff himself was amazed by Will's likeness to himself. So much so that when they first met in 2008 Cliff said, "Hey, it's so nice to meet me".
Although Cliff... As If is primarily a solo act, Will has had the privilege of working with several bands who wanted a "Cliff Richard" to front them, and also a short time with a Shadows tribute band. Now he is working with the Silver Shadows and really excited about it too. Will has stated that it has been a dream to work with a top Shadows tribute band on a regular basis and the Silver Shadows fit the bill.

20/04 For a dedicated bunch of musicians, trying to faithfully reproduce the sounds of their heroes - in our case The Shadows - it's such a pleasure to be told that we are now one of the top Shadows Tribute bands in the UK. WOW - it's makes all the hard work really worthwhile. If you're a Shadows music fan, please keep an eye on our calendar. If we're performing in your area or within striking distance, why not come along and enjoy the fabulous music with us!?
September 2010
30/09 As we go out and perform, we are asked time and time again to play other than "just" Cliff and The Shadows music. We've decided to add a variety of special songs to our setlist. Expect to hear songs from Marty Wilde, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley & The Comets, Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly, The Searchers, The Eagles and other special artists when you come to hear us perform. Loving the variety!

31/05 Once again we have a change of band lineup, in our ever ongoing march towards the place we consider we need to be. Welcome Graham Hyde on rhythm guitar - a musician with a special feel for the rhythm stuff - just what we need to complete the line-up for the forseeable future. Look out for photos of the "new boys" soon!
March 2009
31/03 Whew! Well, as some wise person said, there isn't any consistency until there is consistency! We welcome to the band an accomplished guitarist in the form of Brian Haycock (lead guitar). Brian has been playing lead guitar for more years than we are allowed to say and is an expert on all things Shadows as well as being completely at home with almost anything we throw at him (musically!). Long may Brian's tenure with us last!
January 2009
31/01 As in all bands, things change and The Silver Shadows are no exception to this rule. We have made the decision to change rhythm guitarist and to that end, we have reluctantly parted company with our Steve Deeds. He will be replaced by exceptional all-rounder, Stephen Swann - an accomplished lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist, with immediate effect. Stephen brings a world of experience to our band and we're looking forward to moving onwards and upwards with him as a prominent member. We begin rehearsing with Stephen on the second Sunday in February. More news as it breaks, folks! Meanwhile, look out on our gigs page for upcoming gigs and shows in 2009.
August 2008
08/08 More news! Bob Dore - fab 'keyboardist', guitarist, harmonica weilding maestro AND well known sound engineer, has been regularly joining the band at gigs and at the various Shadows Club meets we attend. We are delighted to have Bob with us, producing those great Shadows orchestral backing sounds from the ivories and delighting our audiences with harmonica pieces such as Dakota - long may it last!
January 2008
14/01 Well... the band hopes their fans had a great Christmas and that 2008 is musical and happy! We're geared for a busy year this year, so if you're looking for a band wot plays good rock 'n roll vocals and instrumentals, please hurry and get those bookings in. If you have a look at the "Gigs" page you'll see that slots from now until July are filling fast. Remember that The Silver Shadows band specialises in great entertainment - if you've not heard us in the flesh yet - NOW is your chance! If you just love guitar music and want to come and listen and chill out, then come along to the Hersham Comrades Club on the second Friday of each month. It's a fun venue complete with bar, music and friendly folk. If you play the guitar and want to play along with a live band, then please feel free to do so. See you there!

20/09 Da Drummer has done it again! If he continues to spend money like this, we'll have to change our (little) van for a flippin' trailer! We are now the proud owners of a professional mixing desk and all the cables and palava that goes along with it. This additional "front of house" gear (see - we know wot we're talking about!) will help us control sound levels in those larger venues where the house doesn't have its own gear. Drums are now able to be mic'ed (or is that "miked"?) up to pander to Chris' ego. He's determined to be heard, no matter how hard we try to keep him under control! ;)

12/08 Aaaaargh! As luck would have it, the date the for Italian Job has been moved and we're no longer able to make it. We've arranged with the 'powers that be' in the village to try again next year, so watch this space for news. There goes our international career!
June 2007
18/06 Just in case anyone wants to know - our Italian destination is Fabrica Di Roma. Located in Central Italy, it's (allegedly!) not too far from Rome. Date pegged in calendar is 22 September. Be there or be square!
17/06 News! Just in. We've been invited to do a show in Italy. At this point it appears it's going to be sometime in September, when the town celebrates one of its festivals. We are told they've heard our demo CD and the "whole town" has a copy! Sad, innit? This is great news for the band as we go from strength to strength. More information in the Gig List when we have it. I guess the disk I talked about earlier in this news section must now become a reality before September. Guys? Guys? Where are you?
03/06 We're doing a classic car show! That's a first for The Silver Shadows!! All are welcome. The show is put on by Woking Hospice and takes place starting at 12:00 midday, at Prins Willem School in Woking. Links to the website HERE. It's alleged that 4000 people visit this show over the period so this is a nice event for the band. Thanks to Paul for arranging this outing for us.
02/06 The CD has reared its head once again! We've been asked so many times if we have a CD that folk can buy that we've decided once again to get cracking and record it. Watch this space for details of where it will be available. Can't wait - is this exciting news or what!?
May 2007
Chris is at it again! We think he's been on the white chocolate while no-one's looking. He's outdone himself this time - A Pearl Reference drumkit complete with 22x18 Bass Drum, 10x8 Tom, 12x9 Tom, 14x14 Tom and, to "augment" the Ludwig snare you read about earlier, he's bought himself one of the world's best snare drums - the Pearl Refence 20 ply (!!) snare at 14" x 6.5". The result is a world-class kit that sounds absolutely incredible, even without mics. It'll be unveiled at our Knaphill gig on 26th May and we're sure it's going to be a killer.
June 2006
Well... not quite the disc I was talking about, but we have our very own demo CD to hand to the hordes of agents and hotels lining up to hear it. Nice one Eric! WOW - what a lot of work. It's the strangest thing - as soon as that red light comes on - TOTAL PANIC! ;) Anyway - it's done, in the bag. Happiness is a great band with a demo CD!
March 2006
For those who haven't managed to get to a Silver Shadows gig this year – our very welcome news is that we (at last!) have started planning a CD. No doubt we'll be paying you all to take a copy away!!
We'll let you know via this page when it's available.
August 2005
A quiet year so far for The Silver Shadows. Several small gigs under the belt but still waiting for that nice big one to come along. Fingers crossed!!
May 2004
We've teamed up with a great bunch of lads called The Silver Searchers and we're doing a mixed "Solid Silver Sixties" show at The Ivy Leaf Club in Maidenhead. All are welcome - you'll need to pay the £4 entrance fee but promises to be a cracking show. Watch the calendar!
January 2004
Uh-oh! Chris has bought some "real" gear again! He says it's to "augment the E-drums" but we'll see... What's on the list? All cymbals Zildjian Avedis. 20" Ping Ride, 16" Medium Crash, 15" Paper Thin Crash, Pair of 13" Mastersound Hi-Hats. OOPS - there's more! It's alleged that Brian Bennett of The Shadows has a bit of a love affair going on - with a 13" x 3.5" Ludwig Hand Beaten Brass Snare. We'll leave you to guess what Chris ordered, on top of all those cymbals! Yep - you got it! <groan>
Snare and cymbals do sound cracking, we must say, even mixed with the Electronic kit.
November 2003
A very welcome addition to the band's hardware, in the form of a Roland SPD-S trigger unit. We now have Chris triggering all sorts of backing sounds during our numbers - strings, piano, organ, brass and various other odd instruments as needed. This has made a huge difference to our "sound" and we can now boast original sounding backing without having a keyboard player on stage with us.
July 2003
Chris has found No Machine Studios in Wokingham and we're doing some of our practice in there now. Not the best spot in the world but the rooms are good enough to keep us making a noise. Lovely recording studio next to the practice rooms!
June 2003
Chris has decided that he's an electronic drummer! He's gone out and bought the most expensive Roland "brain", mixed it up with Pintech toms, Roland Kick Drum, Hart Dynamics snare and countless other toys, in an effort to mimick any of the sounds on the recordings we're learning from. Nice one, drummer boy! That kit sounds absolutely awesome!
